As a tax-focused CPA, the beginning of each year is jam-packed with tax-related tasks and responsibilities. To celebrate successfully navigating the busiest time of the year, my family and I have established a tradition of an after-tax-season vacation in May. This trip serves as a well-deserved break and provides us with a valuable opportunity to reconnect as a family after a hectic tax season.
For 2024, my small but growing family took a road trip to the Sequoia Park Zoo in Eurka, CA. This was an amazing little zoo with lots of acitivites for young children. What really drew us to this park was the Redwood Sky Walk, which is a bridge structure built within the a cluster of trees. The brigdes were a hundred feet above the forest floor and gave such a unique perspective to the sheer size of the trees.
Being in the trees allowed me to indulge in some of my more nerdy traits by either imagining a Star Wars speeder bike racing through the trees or by picturing a bigfoot trudging amongst the foliage.
This was important for me and my family because as entrepreneurs, we frequently pour our hearts and souls into our businesses, striving to provide for our families while juggling numerous responsibilities. Yet, this amazing level of commitment can often lead to burnout, taking a toll not only on our own well-being or that of our business, but also on the happiness and welfare of our loved ones.
This means that it is vital to prioritize the power of taking regular vacations to replenish our energy and gain clarity on what truly matters in life.
Planning in these down times and vacations to your business will help you succeed in amlost everything you choose to do.
Sometimes that means making sure your budget allows for this type of expenditure during the off season or that your business can survive without you for a few days. Working through the budgets and or processes can be an ordeal but is well worth it.
